Shopping in Berlin - popular streets, shopping centers and shops

Shopping in Berlin is not as popular as it is in Milan, Paris or New York. Nevertheless, every year in the German capital, an increasing number of shopping centers, designer boutiques and flea markets open.

It is not possible to calculate the exact number of stores and markets in Berlin, because there really are a lot of them. The most popular boutiques are located on the streets Kurfuerstendamm (western part of Berlin), Schloßstraße (southern part of the city), Alexanderplatz (center), Wilmersdorfer Strase (center) and Friedrichstrasse (center).

If you are in the German capital, the following purchases should be made during shopping.

Clothing of famous European brands

The city has dozens of boutiques of both mid-priced clothes (H&M, Calvin Klein, Puma, Tom Tailor), as well as more expensive options (Chanel, Dior, Gucci, Valentino).

German shoes

Shoes made in Germany have always been famous for their quality, so pay attention to the following brands: Rieker, Tamaris, Pellcuir, etc.

Cosmetics

In addition to well-known German cosmetic brands (Schwarzkopf, Essence, Nivea), you can also purchase products manufactured in other European countries: Rimmel London, Dior, Saint Laurent.

Meissen porcelain

Perhaps this is the only purchase that can not be obtained outside of Germany. Even if you do not have the opportunity to buy a product, be sure to visit the company store - you will definitely not be disappointed.

Kurfuerstendamm Street

Kurfuerstendamm is the most popular shopping street in western Berlin. In addition to famous boutiques (there are at least a hundred of them here), tourists love this area for its authenticity and the spirit of antiquity: the buildings of the late 19th century, huge bright storefronts and cozy cafes, many of which are more than a hundred years old. As for points of sale, the following shopping centers are located here:

KaDeWe

By its significance and popularity, this shopping center, which is translated from German as “Trading House of the West”, is comparable to the Moscow GUM. Locals rarely come here for shopping, because everything here is focused on tourists: designer boutiques, expensive restaurants and exclusive perfume stores. Prices are appropriate.

But even if you don’t have enough money to buy things from Valentino, Gucci or Dior, you can still look at KaDeWe to admire the architecture and the beautiful windows.

Useful Tips

  1. Since the majority of European and American brand boutiques are in the German capital, sales are regularly held there. If you want to make the most profitable purchase, come to the stores at the end of the summer or a few days before Christmas - at this time old collections are sold at the lowest prices.
  2. Do not forget about souvenirs. From the German capital it is worth bringing a figure of a Berlin bear, a piece of the Berlin wall, a model of the “Trabant” machine, beer or chocolate.
  3. If you want to make a bargain in Berlin, visit the outlets. As a rule, their prices are 40-60% lower than in ordinary stores.
  4. If you are tired of shopping in the shopping center, and you want to buy something unusual, go to the flea market. The most famous is Kunst-und Flohmarkt am Tiergarten. Here you can buy antique dishes, interior items and rare equipment.
