Stretch ceilings: pros and cons

Recently, with the development of building technologies, stretch ceilings have become increasingly popular. Due to the thin PVC film of special composition and quality, such a ceiling is able to create a perfectly smooth surface. Stretch ceilings, according to most consumers - it is beautiful, functional and durable. True, but these are just general phrases. To understand this popularity, it is worth considering the advantages of suspended ceilings in more detail.

Advantages of suspended ceilings:

  • level the surface;
  • hide communications, spots, cracks, bumps;
  • create the possibility of installing lighting and backlighting with many options for special effects;
  • high installation speed;
  • before installation, you will not need to free the room from furniture and other items;
  • during installation practically no dust and debris is formed;
  • long term of operation. Some manufacturers declare up to 50 years;
  • protection of the room from leaks: it will firmly "hold" water, up to 100 liters per 1 sq.m., through the nearest hole you can bring
  • quick installation by a team of 2 to 3 people;
  • large selection of colors and textures;
  • easy to dismantle anddo not fade;
  • moisture protection and fire safety;
  • lack of need for special care;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • maximum effect with minimum cost.

The last paragraph means that a ceiling of this quality, namely, smooth, beautiful and functional, can be obtained by traditional methods, but this will require much greater financial costs and time.

It seems that there is simply no alternative to stretch ceilings!

If the stretch ceiling is tired or needs to be dismantled due to a change in the style of the room, then it can easily be changed, leaving the old frame. Properly using the capabilities of modern types of lighting, you can change and transform the room beyond recognition.

However, there are still flaws.

Drawbacks of Stretch Ceilings

  1. Thin PVC film is "afraid" of sharp objects.
  2. Not resistant to low temperatures (not suitable for summer cottages).
  3. An expensive version of transforming the ceiling.
  4. The room loses about 5 cm in height.
  5. Poor quality products may give off a specific smell, but only for the first time.
  6. It is impossible to mount on your own without special skills and equipment.

As you can see, there are many more advantages than disadvantages. Therefore, for all the high cost, the demand for a stretch ceiling remains stable.
